Race for the Cure 2013Posted Sep 23, 2013 in News
Our staff is decked-out in support and in anticipation for the 10th annual Susan G. Komen South Dakota Race for the Cure Sept. 29th. This is the second year our team, the TaTa Tooth Fairies, has participated in this annual race/walk to help find a cure for breast cancer. Last year 3,000 individuals came together for this event and this year Susan G. Komen South Dakota reports 2,000 are already registered. This is the largest affiliated fund raiser for the Susan G. Komen South Dakota foundation which works to bring awareness, preventive care and a cure for a cancer that touches almost everyone in some manner.
In South Dakota alone, with it’s population of 833,354 people, 520 women and 3 men are estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. That is within one year alone in our state. Nationwide it is estimated that 1 in 8 women with be diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes, resulting in over 200,000 cases total in women and also men this year Finding a cure to end this cancer is a cause that many take personally. Whether they themselves received the diagnoses or a loved one, thousands come together to help find a cure. If you are not already registered, the Sensational Smiles team encourages you to join a team maybe at work or even start one. It is an awesome thing to join with others for such a worthy cause. See you in the Race for the Cure.
