Sensational Smiles and the Race for the Cure
Sensational Smiles staff is once again gearing up for the 7th annual Susan G. Komen South Dakota Race for the Cure. Two weeks before and two weeks after the race, our entire staff sports our TaTa Tooth Fairies team t-shirts to help bring awareness. This will be the third consecutive year the Sensational Smiles’ TaTa Tooth Fairies team has participated in this worthy 5k run/walk. Last year an est. 3000 individuals completed the race/walk, which included 13 members of our staff. We had a great time! There is power in unity, and that is really what the Race for the Cure is about; survivors, family, friends and a state coming together in defiance of this disease. It is also about encouraging those that currently face breast cancer and celebrate with those who have overcome.
The Race for the Cure is the largest fundraiser for the South Dakota Affiliate. Because of the funds raised through the Susan G. Komen South Dakota Race for the Cure and other additional avenues, almost 4,000 women in the state of South Dakota have received services (free or at low cost) related to breast health and treatment in the last year. Since the founding of the South Dakota Affiliate in 2005, it has invested over 1.4 million dollars in community programs across South Dakota. The Susan G. Komen organization is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding research and providing help for those with the cancer.
If you are not already registered for the Race for the Cure, we encourages you to join a team maybe through work or put one together with friends and family. It is a powerful thing to join with others to support and bring awareness to a very important causes.
