Bleaching After Care Instructions
- Brush your teeth well with toothpaste prior to inserting the trays.
- Place 1 drop of bleach on the inside of the trays, toward the front side of each tooth. Place the bleach on all teeth that you want to whiten (the teeth that show when you smile). Most patients whiten from premolar to premolar.*
- Place the trays in your mouth. Use trays for the following amount of time: 20% solution – keep trays in for 2-4 hours 35% solution – keep trays in for 30-60 minutes
- If bleach solution gets on your gums, wipe off the excess solution with a cotton swab or paper towel.
- Your gums may appear white and be tender for a short period of time if the bleach contacts the gums.
- Remove the trays and brush your teeth and trays thoroughly without toothpaste.
- Continue using bleach for one to two weeks. You will not notice your teeth whitening until after several uses.
- If you have any tooth sensitivity, you may need to wait one to two days in between bleaching applications. Using sensitive toothpaste can also help.
- DO NOT leave trays in a hot location (in a car) or they may melt/distort. Keep your trays away from pets - dogs love to chew on them!
- DO NOT eat or drink anything while the trays are in place.
*The photo below shows how much gel to place in the trays (your bleach will be clear – we used blue for this example to make it easier to see).
