Invisalign After Care Instructions
Congratulations on choosing to straighten your teeth using Invisalign retainers! Here are a few things you should know.
- Clean regularly - Clean your retainers at least twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. Rinse them out when taking them out for meals or snacks.
- Use a soft toothbrush - Using a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean the inside and outside of your retainers using circular motions.
- Use the right products to clean your retainers. This includes clear liquid soap, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and effervescent tablets.
- Soak your retainers in a solution of one part distilled white vinegar and three parts room temperature water for 15-30 minutes. You can also use a solution of equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide for 15-30 minutes. Lastly, you can also dissolve a retainer cleaning tablet in room temperature water and soak your retainer for 15 minutes.
- Avoid heat! Hot water can damage your retainers and not make them fi t properly; use room temperature water instead.
- Rinse thoroughly. After cleaning, rinse your retainers thoroughly with room temperature water.
- Store properly. When not in your mouth, you should store your retainers in their protective cases. Keep the retainers out of direct sunlight and do not leave them in your car (heat will distort them).
As always, good dental hygiene, such as brushing your teeth and flossing after every meal will prevent tooth decay and gum disease while wearing Invisalign retainers.
