Root Canal

When damage to a tooth reaches the inner nerve tissue, it can be a very painful experience for patients. The exposed nerve tissue can be painful when eating, talking, breathing, or all the time! It is very important to treat the exposed nerve tissue as soon as possible to alleviate the pain and reduce the chance of more problems.

The most common treatment for exposed nerve tissue is a root canal. Historically, root canals have the reputation of being a very long and painful procedure. However, advancements in technology and general dentistry techniques have made root canals very simple, comfortable, and much faster. Compared with the pain many people feel from the exposed tooth nerve, the root canal procedure is actually a relief!

In a root canal procedure, your dentist gently removes the soft tissue within the tooth and fills it with a clean, inert material which stabilizes the tooth. The procedure is completed with the placement of a filling or a crown. The crown protects the tooth and reduces the chance of future fracture.

Please call 605.332.4751 or contact us if you have questions about our root canal treatment or to schedule an appointment.
